Their attractive flowers also add interest in a garden and are attractive to pollinators, like bees. Chives are packed with Vitamin K, which helps prevent osteoporosis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KNOWN HAZARD:<\/strong> Taking an excessive amount of chive may cause an upset stomach.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PLANT PARTS USED:<\/strong> Leaves, bulbs and flowers<\/p>\n<p><strong>EDIBLE USES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Leaves<\/strong> &#8211; Raw, cooked or dried for later use.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bulbs<\/strong> &#8211; Can be used as spring onion.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flowers<\/strong> &#8211; Can be used as a garnish in salads.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>MEDICINAL USES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chives, chopped and sprinkled on food, are beneficial to aid digestion and improve appetite.<\/li>\n<li>The mild anti-inflammatory properties in chives can lower the chance of getting rheumatoid arthritis if consumed every day.<\/li>\n<li>The whole plant has a beneficial effect on the digestive system and the blood circulation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>OTHER USES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The juice of the plant is used as an insect repellent.<\/li>\n<li>Other uses of chives include cosmetics, dyes, and perfumes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PLANT CARE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This herb has a preference for a fertile and moist soil having an excellent drainage in full sun to partial shade.<\/li>\n<li>Trim your chives for use and to promote new growth.<\/li>\n<li>Chives are propagated by means of seeds. The seedlings should be transplanted in pots immediately when they have grown sufficiently large for easy handling.<\/li>\n<li>Undertake division of the clumps of chives at least once in 3 or 4 years to sustain the vitality of the plant.
