It has a more robust flavor with a spicy kick of licorice and anise which is popular in the cuisines of Southeast Asia.\u00a0 Ingesting them can also cure many ailments like fever, dry coughs and colds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KNOWN HAZARD:<\/strong> None known<\/p>\n<p><strong>PLANT PARTS USED: <\/strong>Leaves, flowers and seeds<\/p>\n<p><strong>EDIBLE USES: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Leaves<\/strong> &#8211; Commonly used in Thai, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia cuisines. Can be used to make tea.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flowers <\/strong>&#8211; Edible, can be eaten with the leaves.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Seeds<\/strong> &#8211; Are used in sweet desserts or drinks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>MEDICINAL USES: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>To relieve migraine, reduce insomnia and anxiety<\/strong> &#8211; The essential oil is used as aromatherapy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To treat fever, flu and flatulence<\/strong> &#8211; Drink decoction of the leaves.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To relieve insect stings and bites<\/strong> &#8211; Apply fresh basil leaves juice on the affected area and repeat after a few hours.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To treat bacterial infection and intestinal parasites &#8211; <\/strong>Mix grounded leaves with water and drink it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>OTHER USES: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As insect repellent, extracted as essential oil and used in perfumery and cosmetics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PLANT CARE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It prefers a well-drained soil with plenty of sun.<\/li>\n<li>Harvest the leaves for use and to encourage a bushy plant habit.<\/li>\n<li>Propagated by seeds or stem cuttings. For stem cuttings, take a 4 inches basil cutting right below a leaf node. Remove the leaves off the basil cutting about 2 inches from the end. Put in a glass of water on the windowsill where it can get good sunlight. Change the water every few days until you see root growth. Once the roots on your basil cutting are 2 inches or longer, plant the cutting in a pot where the plant will get direct sunlight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><em>(Ocimum basilicum var.
