Patchouli is widely cultivated for its essential oil that is used as a fragrance in perfumes, cosmetics, and incense. In Malaysia, the plant seldom flowers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KNOWN HAZARD:<\/strong> None known<\/p>\n<p><strong>PLANT PARTS USED:<\/strong> Leaves<\/p>\n<p><strong>EDIBLE USES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leaves &#8211; Eaten as a vegetable, used as a flavoring ingredient in food and brewed as herbal tea.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>MEDICINAL USES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>To regulate menstrual flow &#8211; <\/strong>Soak fresh leaves, then drink the water.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To treat muscle aches and joint pains &#8211; <\/strong>Crush the leaves and apply on the sore part.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To overcome urinary incontinence &#8211; <\/strong>Soak the leaves, dried shoots or roots, then drink the water.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To relieve headache<\/strong> &#8211; Drink decoction of the leaves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>OTHER USES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The leaves are used in potpourri.<\/li>\n<li>The essential oil from the leaves is used as a fixative in perfumes, toiletries, cosmetics, incense and insecticides.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PLANT CARE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Propagated by stem cuttings of a mature plant. The cuttings should be spaced at least 12 inches away from each other and the roots spread out thoroughly.<\/li>\n<li>The soil should be kept moist, but never overwatered.
