An excellent source of vitamins and antioxidants, the plant is known to help boost the immune system and prevent heart disease.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KNOWN HAZARD:<\/strong> None known<\/p>\n<p><strong>PLANT PARTS USED:<\/strong> Leaves and roots<\/p>\n<p><strong>EDIBLE USES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Young leaves<\/strong> &#8211; Cooked and eaten. They are often used, both fresh or dried as flavorings. The leaves are also used to wrap other foods, such as rice dumplings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>MEDICINAL USES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>To reduce high blood pressure<\/strong> &#8211; Drink decoction of pandan leaves.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To shrink the uterus after giving birth<\/strong> &#8211; Drink decoction of pandan roots.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To control diabetes<\/strong> &#8211; Drink decoction of pandan.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To treat rheumatism<\/strong> &#8211; An infusion of pandan leaf in coconut oil are rubbed on the skin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>OTHER USES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The essential oils are used for cosmetics ingredient, perfume and potpourri and as insect repellent.<\/li>\n<li>The leaves can be woven into small baskets and mats or extracted as natural green coloring.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PLANT CARE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pandan dislikes like too much sun or wind, and is best grown in a protected, part-shade position.<\/li>\n<li>Water twice daily for sufficient moisture and ensure the soils are well-drained.<\/li>\n<li>Harvest pandan for use and gently trim away dry, brown, or yellowish leaves by using a pair of secateurs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Propagation by suckers. Pandan produces suckers from its base, each capable of growing into a new plant. Cut the suckers from the plant and plant it in a pot filled with moistened medium. Cover the pot with a clear plastic bag to retain moisture, but water if it dries out.
