Black grass jelly most widely consumed as an herbal beverage or a gelatin-type dessert but also has been used to treat hypertension, diabetes and liver diseases.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KNOWN HAZARD:<\/strong> None known<\/p>\n<p><strong>PLANT PARTS USED:<\/strong> Leaves<\/p>\n<p><strong>EDIBLE USES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Leaves <\/strong>&#8211; Used to make jelly desserts and beverages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>MEDICINAL USES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In Chinese folk medicine, the plant is used as herbal medicine for liver disease, hypertension, diabetes and joint pain.<\/li>\n<li>The leaves are applied medicinally against dysentery, enteritis, abdominalgia, hoarseness and leucorrhoea.<\/li>\n<li>The plant extracts of the black grass jelly have been reported to induce anti-diabetic, anti-cancer, and anti-diarrhea effects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>OTHER USES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Can be used for skincare due to its soothing and cooling effects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PLANT CARE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Requires moist, but well-drained soil. Do not let dry out between watering.<\/li>\n<li>Direct sunlight and partial sunlight, but the plant is sensitive to drought.<\/li>\n<li>Keep plant in top form by feeding the plants every few weeks with a dilute solution of liquid fertilizer.<\/li>\n<li>Easily propagated by stem cuttings 20cm long, planted on small ridges in well-prepared, loose soil.
