Roselle is also famous for its high nutritional and medicinal values which includes lowering blood pressure and diabetes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>KNOWN HAZARD:<\/strong> None known<\/p>\n<p><strong>PLANT PARTS USED:<\/strong> Leaves, flowers, stems, roots and seeds<\/p>\n<p><strong>EDIBLE USES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Flowers<\/strong> &#8211; The fresh calyx is eaten raw or cooked. It is also used to add a red colour and to flavour herb teas.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Young leaves and stems<\/strong> &#8211; Raw or cooked.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Seeds<\/strong> &#8211; Roasted and eaten as a snack.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Roots <\/strong>&#8211; It is edible but very fibrous.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>MEDICINAL USES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Drink roselle tea to help lower the blood pressure.<\/li>\n<li>The leaves are used externally as a poultice on abscesses.<\/li>\n<li>Infusion of roselle calyx is taken orally for urinary problems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>OTHER USES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A yellow dye is obtained from the petals.<\/li>\n<li>Oil from the seeds is used in the soap and cosmetic industries and as an ingredient in paints.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PLANT CARE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The roselle plant is easily raised from seeds or stem-cuttings.<\/li>\n<li>Roselle is best grown using well-drained, fertile soil.<\/li>\n<li>Roselle can be planted outdoors in the ground or inside a pot placed on a windowsill or balcony, as long as the plant receives direct sunshine for at least 6 hours daily. Water regularly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Calyces should be harvested when they are tender and plump, they will stay fresh for about a week after picking.
